Mencap needs Malvern volunteers

FROM gardening to tai chi, local people with learning disabilities now have access to a huge range of meaningful leisure and learning opportunities in Malvern.
But volunteers are urgently needed to help enable even more – especially getting people out and about in the town.
The community day services are provided by Heart of England Mencap, which supports people with learning disabilities across Worcestershire and Warwickshire.
The charity brought its day activity group, known as Mencap Pathway, to Malvern at the end of last year, based at the improved and refurbished 2nd Malvern Scout HQ.
Pathway now runs five days a week, welcoming 14 customers already to enjoy a huge range of activities.
But the charity is now on the look-out for local volunteers, so that even more can be offered.
“Pathway is all about focusing on abilities and not disabilities, providing meaningful activities like cooking, crafting, woodwork, music, drama, gardening, even tai chi,” Service Manager Ben Davies said.
“All of this builds confidence, skills and friendships and that’s hugely important to our charity. What’s just as important is enabling activities in the community for our customers too, and we are looking for volunteers who can help support us in that; assisting on trips outs and helping to build our on-site Pathway activities too, all skills and ideas are welcome.
“You don’t need any experience, come and learn with our customers and make a real difference to local lives. Pathway is full of smiles, and it’s hugely rewarding.”
