How to leave a legacy

Residuary

This is where you say that you either want your whole estate to go to your chosen charity or that after your other wishes have been met, anything else should then be donated.

Pecuniary

This is a cash donation. In your Will you would state a set amount of money which you would like to go to your chosen charity.

Specific

This means you might leave something more tangible to a charity, such as property, shares, or furniture.

You can make a gift to more than one charity and it’s a very cost-effective way to give as charities are exempt from inheritance tax.

We advise anyone making or updating a Will to seek independent advice from a practicing solicitor or other legally qualified Will writer.
