Saying thanks to our youngest Care Heroes

COVID-19 hasn’t stopped the life-changing support our care workers provide in our communities - and we wanted to thank not only our team, but the team behind them too!

We organised a special week of celebrations to thank our amazing team of carers for their amazing commitment to what they do.

#WeCare Week was all about capturing the successes of the charity’s support workers, celebrating their contribution to the community, and promoting the valued work of those teams in the care sector.

As well as awarding ‘We Care’ pin badges and thank you cards to every member of the team, staff were also nominated to receive individual gifts to mark their special contribution as ‘Care Heroes’.

And it wasn’t just the support workers who were thanked – it extended to their families too, as Helena Wallis, Chief Executive of Heart of England Mencap, explains:

“Many of our staff have had to spend time away from their families, including their young children, to care for the people we support - and we think that makes their children Care Heroes too. To say thank you, we sent special letters to those children to let them know what a difference they - and their brilliant mums and dads - have made.

“We Care Week was a chance for us to say a very big thank you to our incredible Heart of England Mencap family,” she added.

“To the teams who have had to change the way they work, adapt to new roles or settings and ensure the care we deliver to support some of the most vulnerable people in our community continued throughout what has been such a challenging time for everyone. We're incredibly proud of everything we have achieved - and continue to achieve.”
