Thanks to Lyng Hall School

We’re hugely grateful to the staff and pupils at Lyng Hall School – who are continuing to support us, even though we are having to do things rather differently.

Every year the school, based in Coventry, chooses a charity for its students and teachers to fundraise for, and we were thrilled to learn that for 2020 they picked us.

Not only was the school keen to raise funds to help us and the local people that we support, students were also keen to work alongside our staff and our customers, to learn how the charity works and what life with a learning disability is like.

We formed a partnership between Lyng Hall and our Day Services - Pathway.

Key students who were particularly interested in this project came to join us for the day, taking part and helping us run our morning and afternoon activities at Pathway.

The original plan was for a group of students to spend the day with us twice a month, helping with our different projects.

But of course Covid-19 changed all of that when both schools and our day centres had to close, as our Programme Coordinator Kate Buttrick says:

“Pathway staff were redeployed to run sessions from customers’ homes but unfortunately not all of our customers had this support, and so the idea to have interactive sessions on our website that everyone could access was developed.

“I contacted Cathy Smith, Deputy Head at Lyng Hall, to see if the students would like to help create some activities for our new web page that our customers could try at home. They loved the idea and each week we are sent are range of creative sessions and videos to entertain and keep our customers motivated - from making bird feeders to tackling brain teasers!

“It’s been a real joy working with Lyng Hall School – even though we are having to do things differently!”

Pupils and staff sent us a brilliant photo message to wish us well - and so we've sent this one back!
